Your First Dermatology Appointment: What Wilton Patients Can Expect

Maybe you’ve been putting off a skin check. Perhaps your teenager’s acne is getting harder to manage, or an itchy patch just won’t settle down. Whatever brings you in, you don’t need to have the answers before you make an appointment. We’re here to help you find them.

Dermatologist examining a patient’s arm during a skin check

At Dermatology Physicians of Connecticut, we welcome Wilton patients at our Norwalk and Stamford offices. Here’s how to feel a little more prepared for your first visit.

Start with what’s bothering you

When you book, tell us why you’d like to come in. “My skin is itchy” or “I’m worried about this mole” is a perfectly good place to start. Mention a spot that is changing, bleeding, or painful when you contact the office. If the appointment is for your child, share their age so we can help you find an appropriate provider.

A few things to bring

  • Your photo ID, insurance card, and a referral if your plan requires one.
  • A list of your medications, including nonprescription products, vitamins, and supplements.
  • Relevant medical records, such as earlier biopsy or lab results.
  • A short list of questions you don’t want to forget.

It also helps to remember when the concern began and which treatments you’ve already tried. Let your provider know about any personal or family history of skin cancer.

Our new patient checklist covers the office essentials. Please allow extra time if you still need to complete forms when you arrive.

Choose the office that’s convenient for you

Our Norwalk office is at 148 East Avenue, Suite 3B. At our Stamford office, you’ll find us at 260 Long Ridge Road, Entrance D, Suite D180. Appointments take place at these offices; we do not have a Wilton office.

Our guide to dermatology care near Wilton puts the office hours, current providers, directions, and parking information in one place. Choose the location that works best for your day.

There’s room for your questions

Your visit is a chance to talk about what you’ve noticed and what you hope to improve. Ask what the next steps involve, how to use any recommended treatment, and when to follow up. If an explanation isn’t clear, please say so. We want you to leave understanding the plan for your skin.

Questions before your first visit

Can I book an appointment for my child?

Yes. Children and teens can be seen for a wide range of skin concerns, including acne, eczema, and molluscum. Let us know your child’s age when you call.

Should I wear makeup?

Try to leave the area you want examined free of makeup. If you need to wear it, bring something to remove it at the office.

How do I check my insurance?

Start with our insurance information, then confirm coverage and any referral requirements with your insurer. Coverage can depend on your plan and the reason for your visit.

We look forward to meeting you

Whether this is your first dermatology visit or you’re looking for a new doctor closer to home, we’re glad to help. Request an appointment, or call Norwalk at 203-538-5682 or Stamford at 203-969-0123.
