VBeam Perfecta (Pulsed-dye laser)

The VBeam Perfecta is a pulsed-dye laser used to diminish and remove redness such as broken blood vessels, rosacea, port-wine stain birthmarks, red scars and pink stretch marks.

How does it work?

This laser produces a beam of light to selectively destroy the blood vessels that cause the make the vascular lesions or are contained within the scar or stretch mark, without damaging the surrounding tissues.

What is the procedure like?

Prior to your treatment, the skin is cleaned with alcohol.  We will then place goggles over your eyes to protect your eyes.  During the procedure, you may experience mild discomfort similar to a mosquito bite.  A cold spray comes out at the same time which protects the outside of your skin and feels like a rubber band snap. Treatment may require one or multiple sessions, with each session taking between 5 and 15 minutes.

What can I expect after my treatment?

Immediately after your treatment, we will give you a cold pack to apply to the treated area(s), which will feel good.  We recommend that you apply ice or a cold pack to the treated area(s) for 10 minutes every hour for the rest of the day.  Most treatments result in redness similar to the appearance of a slapped cheek that lasts several hours and rarely a day or two. Swelling may develop shortly after treatment. It usually clears by the next day. This allows most patients to return to work the day after treatment or even that same day. Rarely, pulsed-dye laser treatments leave a bruise that lasts 5 to 10 days. We will discuss this possibility with you in advance of treatment. The laser treatment can be modified should you not wish any bruising to occur. If you do get a bruise, it is okay to apply a cover-up to camouflage it.
