TriVantage Laser for Treatment of Brown Spots
What is the TriVantage laser?
The TriVantage laser is a laser used to lighten or remove unwanted brown spots such as sun spots that appear with sun exposure over time. It is also used for laser tattoo removal.
We can treat brown spots anywhere on the body, with the most common areas being the face, chest, and the backs of the hands. Diminishing the appearance of these brown spots can make you look younger and healthier. Many of our women patients who spent years covering up brown spots that they were self conscious about are thrilled that they can leave the house without feeling the need to cover them anymore. If you have numerous brown spots on the face, chest, or backs of your hands, you may want to consider a procedure called Fraxel.
How does it work?
The TriVantage laser works by producing a bright beam of light that destroys the pigment in the sun spot with very little damage to the surrounding skin.
What is the procedure like?
Prior to your procedure, we will clean the skin with alcohol and place goggles over your eyes to protect your eyes. The laser feels like warm pins and needles and is tolerated very well. Generally, numbing medicine is not needed. The length of the procedure varies depending on how many brown spots you are having treated but typically takes no longer than a few minutes. Following the treatment, we will give you an ice pack to apply to the treated areas, which feels good. Before you leave, we will apply Aquaphor Healing Ointment® to the treated areas.
What can I expect after my treatment?
The treated sites are usually slightly red at the end of the treatment then crust lightly later that day or the next day. We recommend you wash the area with a mild soap, gently pat dry, and apply Aquaphor Healing Ointment® twice a day until healing is complete. Crusts will fall off on their own during the first week (when on the face) or two (when on other parts of the body). Depending on the size and darkness of the spots being treated, 1-3 treatments are typically required. Treatments are usually spaced 4-6 weeks apart.
You may wear cover-up over the treated areas. It is important to protect yourself from the sun following treatment, especially while healing to give you the best result but also going forward to lessen the development of new brown spots.
Who should not undergo treatment with this laser?
You should not undergo treatment with this laser if you have ever been treated with gold therapy, if you are tan, if you have used self tanner within the 2 weeks prior to the procedure, or if you are going to be in intense sun within 1-2 weeks following the procedure.
