Laser Tattoo Removal
As life changes, tattoos may become less desirable. Fortunately, laser technology provides an opportunity to remove unwanted tattoos. At Dermatology Physicians of Connecticut, we use the Candela TriVantage laser for tattoo removal. With this laser, we can use three different wavelengths of light to treat all colors of tattoo ink.
How does it work?
The laser produces an extremely short pulse of light that fragments the tattoo pigment while leaving the surrounding skin and tissue unharmed.
How shall I prepare for my treatment?
You should not be tan and should avoid self tanner for 2 weeks prior to the treatment.
What is the procedure like?
The laser procedure can be painful. Many patients have compared it to a rubber band snapping against the skin. To make the treatment more comfortable, the area to be treated may be numbed with topical or locally injected anesthetic. Removing a tattoo usually requires multiple sessions lasting 15 to 30 minutes each.
What can I expect after my treatment?
A crust usually forms over the treated area and typically comes off in about a week. We recommend you wash the area with a mild soap, pat dry, and apply an ointment such as Aquaphor® Healing Ointment twice a day until the area has fully healed. You may use ice packs/cool compress and acetaminophen (Tylenol®) or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications to ease any discomfort.
